Students “Ambassadors” of Khan Academy

The 15 high school students representing Nayden Gerov High School, Lom, Dimitar Dobrovich National High School of Arts, Sliven, P.K. Yavorov High School, Sliven, Atanas Dimitrov Vocational High School for Technologies, Nova Zagora, Vassil Aprilov High School, Dolna Mitropolia, Intellect State Financial and Economic High School, Pleven are our first students-ambassadors who dedicated themselves to the cause of promoting the opportunities for access to quality, free education for everyone in Bulgaria.

In the fall of 2020, they organized events in three districts in Bulgaria: Montana, Sliven, and Pleven and in one month reached over 1,200 students, parents, and teachers. The large-scale campaign is part of the project “Network of students-volunteers in favour of quality free education with Khan Academy in small towns in the country with poor access to quality education”, an initiative of “Education Without Backpacks” with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and National youth program 2016-2020 (contract № 25-00-29/08.06.2020).

Young people are one of the most active and conscious students in their schools, who, after a two-day training seminar conducted by our team, presented in a way understandable for their peers how they can help themselves with world-proven, completely free resources, such as Khan Academy educational platform. In this way, they spread the message of equal access to education on global level and great opportunities for online support, especially while we are in an epidemiological environment. In teams, the students developed their own social media campaigns and connected with educational and cultural institutions such as libraries, community centres, etc., where they provided materials and information about the initiative.
