In Bulgaria, the platform is integrated with Shkolo.bg, the new national platform by the Ministry of Education and Science called ‘Digital Backpack’, and more. In the United States, Khan Academy offers a special tool called Khanmigo, which integrates artificial intelligence based on GPT-4. We hope it will soon be accessible in Bulgaria as well.

More successful in mathematics at the progymnasium with Khan Academy: A pilot program for catching up on math gaps in the progymnasium and achieving higher exam success after 7th grade, including through the use of the free course for preparation in 7th grade mathematics. The program builds upon our experience with the project “Mathematics is for everyone” and the good practice of addressing math gaps during the pandemic with Khan Academy.”

Competitions with Khan Academy: since 2020 we regularly run competitions with prizes to motivate students to learn and develop, and since the spring of 2023 we run the team spirit challenges Khanoniada .
A 13-year journey
It all started with Ivan Gospodinov - now a philosophy and civics education teacher, teacher trainer and chairman of the "Education without backpacks" association. While studying in Germany, he had difficulties with statistics. He stumbled upon the Khan Academy platform and the soft-spoken Sal Khan guided him through the complex mathematical concepts. When Ivan learned that it is possible to translate the content of Khan Academy into the main world languages, he immediately wrote to them to unlock this possibility for Bulgarian as well. Thus, in 2011, the long process of localization of Khan Academy in Bulgarian began - and it never stops. Today, students can study mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, informatics, history, philosophy, music, economics, etc. in Bulgarian language. In order to advance the product faster and to start its more active implementation in the educational system, at the end of 2014 we created the association "Education without backpacks".

We in the association "Education without backpacks" believe that in order to have a modern education in Bulgaria, the ways of learning should be updated constantly, that technologies should be used in the classrooms, that the students' curiosity and potential should be developed in a balanced manner to reach their full capacity. The role of technology is to support and facilitate the learning process. To make this possible should be used the best quality and proven online platforms. With their help, teachers could even more easily fulfill their main task, which is to inspire students to learn and help them progress at their own pace, so that absolutely everyone receives a world-class quality education.
